A³RA.org is a reference site for people designing, operating, and governing autonomous and cyber-physical systems that act in the real world.

Different parts of the site serve different purposes. Understanding what kind of material you are reading—and how it is intended to be used—will help you apply it correctly.

Foundations

Core principles and definitions

The A³RA Foundations define the essential ideas behind trustworthy action in cyber-physical systems.

They establish what accountability means in practice, what must be provable, and where authority must be explicit.

Foundations are intended to be durable. They focus on what must be true, rather than how a system is implemented.

Models

Formal structure

Models describe how the Foundations are expressed as structure that can be reasoned about and implemented.

This includes data models (such as Security Posture and BRE), authority and delegation models, and policy or admissibility structures.

Models are intentionally precise. They describe the shape of a system, not specific technologies, products, or vendors.

Use Cases

Application in real domains

Use Cases apply the Foundations and Models to specific domains and operational contexts.

They illustrate how accountability, authority, and risk surface in real systems, while remaining grounded in first principles.

Each use case explicitly references the Foundations and Models it depends on.

Examples

Illustration and intuition

Examples exist to make abstract ideas easier to visualize.

They may include sample data structures, simplified configurations, or illustrative decision flows.

Examples are not requirements and do not define compliance. Their purpose is explanatory, not prescriptive.

Interpretation and context

This section contains time-bound analysis, interpretation, and industry commentary.

Essays may explore regulatory implications, architectural trade-offs, or emerging patterns. They are intentionally non-normative and should be read as perspective rather than definition.
